-------------------
The author, Charles Alfred Ashburton, was a historian and member of the Society of Antiquaries. This book was considered a significant contribution to English historical literature at the time. The author's writing style is engaging, and he provides a lot of detail and analysis of the various periods in English history.
One unique aspect of the book is that it covers the early history of England, including the legendary first settlements of Brutus, which some scholars consider to be mythical. This demonstrates the author's comprehensive approach to English history, which goes beyond the commonly accepted starting point of Julius Caesar's invasion in 55 BC.
