The boards depict a quiver of arrows intersected with a flaming torch to form a cross in front of a laurel wreath. This image can be seen in various forms of art, ranging from mirrors and frames to paintings and frescos. Louis XVI used a similar crest where he had a bow ribbon tying the quiver with the flambeau (torch). The flambeau is an ancient symbol of life and truth, while the quiver symbolises using force to pursue justice. This symbol might also be a reference to Artemis, the Greek goddess of hunting, who was commonly depicted with a bow and arrow, and sometimes a torch, among other hunting equipment.
