-------------------

Almost certainly the most desirable modern set of the collected works of the Early Church Fathers, these sets are extremely rare outside of the United States where it was published in the 1990s. For anybody interested in the history of the early Church, these sets are arguably the greatest available tool to access these works in the printed format. Both sets are ordinarily very expensive indeed and so here is a rare opportunity to acquire both at a much more affordable price. The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers set (i.e. circa and after 325 AD) is complete with all fourteen volumes from Eusebius to the coverage of the early Ecumenical Councils up to Second Nice (787 AD), covering the major Councils pre-1054. The Ante-Nicene Fathers set (i.e. before 325 AD) lacks the first and eighth volume. With a bit of patience and searching, these volumes can most likely be acquired individually, despite their rarity, if desiring to complete that set.

Size: 173 x 242 mm (approx., each)

Condition:

Original publisher's full cloth bindings, front boards blindstamped with an attractive central portrait. Bindings slightly rubbed, some loss to title label of the seventh volume of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers set. A few minor bumps in places, but generally the volumes are externally very good. All boards are attached and bindings are functional. Bump to bottom page edge of the third volume of the Ante-Nicene Fathers set affecting ~18pp. at the foot, not losing any sense of text. Some minor marks to page edges, including some with foxing as typical. No attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions. Internally generally exceptionally clean throughout each volume. Sticker to bottom of rear boards of vols 2-7 of the Ante-Nicene Fathers set and to volume 10 (only) of the other set.
