With a beautiful fore-edge painting in the style of Alphonse Mucha of a sitting woman in front of a small stained glass window with a floral motif.

Provenance:

Bookplate of "Captain Thomas Vernon Booth-Jones of Hale Park, Hampshire" (1895-1966) who was an officer at the Royal Berkshire Regiment. His photograph is part of the "Bond of Sacrifice - First World War Portraits Collection" at the Imperial War Museum.

Ink ownership inscription reading "T. B. Jones. from his Housemaster Dec. 1888". 

Two gilt crests of the Rossall School. The crest on the front board is with the motto "Mens Agitat Molem", and the shield has four section, two of the sections hold a cardinal's hat, and the other sections depict three roses (?), and a cross. The crest of the rear board is of a cardinal's hat with the words "Schola Rossallensis" surrounding it and with "Northern Church of England School" underneath.

Full green calf prize binding with a red tooled label to the spine between raised bands, other compartments with gilt tooling, as well as gilt tooling to both boards, depicting two different crests/symbols for the Rossal School. Spine lightly rubbed and somewhat sunned. Both boards attached with rubbing along joints, and the rear hinge cracked. Boards rubbed and scuffed with some discolouration. All gilt shows well. All page edges gilt with the fore-edge painting very slightly visible through the gilt, more properly seen when the leaves are spread as expected. Shelf and edge wear. Bookplate attached to front pastedown. Ink inscription to front blank. Minor foxing to endpapers. Text block extremely clean with light sporadic foxing.
