One of the most famous editions of Spenser's Faerie Queene, here in lovely contemporary full calf bindings, published the same year as, but slightly earlier than, the first annotated edition, thus printed during the dawn of the academic study of classic works such as Spenser. A fantastic set, complete in four volumes.

Full brown calf with black tooled labels to spines between gilt bands and with red told volume number labels. Bindings rubbed and scuffed. All boards securely attached with rubbing along joints, some joints and hinges starting. Shelf and edge wear. Dulling to spotted page edges. No attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions. Text blocks very clean with light toning and occasional foxing.
