-------------------

The Adventures of Tom, Jerry and Logic is a periodical work of Pierce Egan which gained much popularity in the 1820s. Its success inspired many imitators both in print and on the stage. Egan invented an egg-nog with brandy which was used as a promotion for his musical stage adaptation of Tom and Jerry, Life in London. The Tom and Jerry drink became very popular in America during the Christmas time after Jeremy Thomas published the recipe in his bar-tenders guide in 1862. His recipe contained brandy or rum, eggs, nutmeg, and hot milk or water. Thomas claimed to have named the drink after his two pet mice of his childhood. Some believe that he picked up the idea from Egan after visiting London.

The book is often associated with the children's cartoon Tom & Jerry. Originally the animators of Tom & Jerry created a cartoon called 'Puss Gets the Boot' whose success allowed for the creators to continue making more movies which became Tom & Jerry. The original cat and mouse were called Jasper and Jinx, later their names were changed through a MGM competition. The competition's winner was John Carr, the animator. The character names being the same is either a coincidence or Carr was inspired by Egan's book, however, the truth of the names is unknown.
