Dionysius Joncquet was a French physician and Professor of Botany who advised on improvements to the Royal Garden. This is a catalogue of the plants in his own garden and is notably scarce. An inferior copy sold at a French auction called Tajan in 2017 for 354 EUR. This edition has a particularly fine engraved title page.

Without any attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions, but with the pencil shelf reference mark from Ombersley Court from the Sandys collection, kept in this same collection since at least the 18th century, perhaps earlier. This copy is fresh to the market.

Near contemporary full calf binding retaining its tooled red morocco label, thin quarto. Binding rubbed with some discolouration, joints cracked, but with both boards securely attached; the binding is secure. Pencil inscription to ffep verso in the hand of Lord Sandys. Exceptionally clean throughout the text block. Entrance dedicatory leaf with minor loss to bottom corner, losing the signature, but not affecting the text. Final two leaves of the Index have small loss in the upper corner in the marginal space, not affecting text. A lovely copy of a scarce text.
