Near contemporary full calf bindings with intricate gilt to the spines in compartments between raised bands. The volume tooled morocco labels are particularly attractive with intricate gilt. The spines are a little sunned, but uniformly, thus unnoticeable on the shelf. Spines a little rubbed with some minor discolouration. Rubbing at joints but with all boards securely attached. Minor shelf wear, a little wear at the head of the spine of the second volume. Boards all very good or better, slightly sunned at inner margin of the front board of the first volume (only). Bookplate to front pastedown of both volumes. Endpapers foxed. Generally very clean through the text blocks and bright. Overall a very good set.
