The History and Antiquities of the City of York, From its Origin to the Present Times. Illustrated with Twenty-Two Copper Plates. York: A. Ward, 1785.

-------------------

Some attribute this work to William Combe, but it is nonetheless unattributed to the title page. The perhaps original paper labels backed on to the spines attribute this to Francis Drake which seems to be a more accurate attribution to authorship.

A lovely set with plentiful illustrations and foldout plates throughout including a few foldout maps as pictured.

[Foldout map, i, 400pp]; [i, 402pp]; [ii, 292pp]

Circa 19th century bindings preserving earlier, probably original paper labels to the spines. Some wear to spines, bumped at the feet. Some wear along the joints but with all boards securely attached. Boards all very good or better. Some bumps to edges of boards. Page edges all uncut but very good. Pencil writing to final pastedown of each volume and occasionally to some pages and plates throughout but is largely clean. Some foxing to endpapers and the foldout map at the beginning of volume one and sporadic minor foxing throughout but with the majority very clean.
