Brown calf boards with a brown cloth spine. Small fragment of paper labels remain on the spine. Paper label to the bottom of the front board. Binding rubbed and scuffed with small pieces of leather peeling in places. The bottom of the backstrip is partially detached. Shelf and edge wear. Both boards attached with rubbing along joints and wear to hinges. Marbled page edges dulled. Text block toned with occasional foxing and marks, some leaves more prominently foxed and toned. Ffep and the following blank are partially attached to each other. Title page backed onto a blank. Two blanks following the title page are partially attached to each other and the title page. Ink inscription on the dedication. Hole to pp.153/154 and pp.155/156 with a small part of the text lacking. Large mark to pp.158, text still legible. Tear to the centre of pp.163/164 between the two columns of text, thus not affecting legibility. Small tear to the bottom of the gutter of pp.185/186. Large tear to pp.341/342.
