A lovely uniformly bound set of Edward Gibbon's magnum opus, the most famous history of the ancient Roman Empire published in the English language. This edition contains three foldout maps.

Contemporary half calf each volume retaining its tooled black morocco label, some chipped with minor loss. Bindings rubbed with losses at extremities. Loss to the lower raised band of volume four. Joints fragile, some cracked, but with all boards attached, most secure, some fragile. Marbled paper backed boards a little scuffed but mostly very good or better. The set is without a shelf lean. Top page edges uniformly dulled as typical. Bookplate to front pastedown in each volume. Endpapers foxed, else, largely clean throughout each volume's text block. The maps also have some foxing and toning. Else, a presentable set of Gibbon's classic work.
