THE EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION OF FRANCOIS EMMANUEL TOULONGEON'S HISTORY OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION FOR WHICH WE COULD NOT TRACE ANY SALES RECORDS!

-------------------

The remarkable first edition of Toulongeon's History of the French Revolution published over a 9 year time scale with a large number of very attractive foldout maps as pictured. WorldCat records only 5 copies held institutionally, all in French institutions, and we could not trace any sales records for this set either at auction or from book dealers. An extremely rare first edition, here beautifully presented in contemporary full marbled calf bindings.

Original contemporary full marbled calf bindings, spines slightly sunned, bindings a little rubbed with minor losses at extremities, but generally very attractive, each volume retaining its tooled red morocco label. All edges contemporaneously coloured red, top edges a little dulled as typical. Some rubbing along joints, uncracked, with all boards securely attached, the bindings secure, and without shelf lean. Edge toning to endpapers as commensurate with the calf bindings, the occasional bit of spotting through the text blocks, but generally very clean throughout, the full text without loss of sense. An excellent example of this exceedingly rare first edition.
