The History of the Progress & Termination of the Roman Republic by Adam Ferguson. London: Published by Jones & Co, 1825.

-------------------

A very attractive half leather book focussing on the part of Roman history usually not found covered in such detail in similar early publications, with most histories of Rome focussing on the decline and fall of the Roman empire as opposed to a view of the republic. This book is bound with two lovely foldout maps as pictured.

Size: 142 x 223 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[viii, two foldout maps, pp.[1]-480]

Half calf binding over marbled boards. Spine a little rubbed and discoloured but generally remains very good. Joints very slightly rubbed but remain uncracked and without structural fault, both boards are securely attached. Minor shelf wear. Boards very good or better. Bookplate to front pastedown with endpapers edge toned as commensurate with the calf binding. Endpapers a little foxed, also to the tissue guard for the frontis & engraved title page and the foldout maps. The maps are additionally a bit more toned and are without any rips or tears.
