VERY RARE, FIRST EDITIONS, here bound together. This near unobtainable collection of the Lawes and Acts of Parliament during the reign of King James shows a phenomenal historical background to the laws surrounding the shift from the Geneva Bible to the King James Bible. The first section of this book was printed in the same year as the printing of the first King James Bible. Inside this book one finds lots of interesting laws pertaining to how King James was changing the laws of Great Britain to accommodate the changing theological views, especially relating to Bishops.
A truly incredible historical record covering the period between 1597 and 1621 (non-continuously), published contemporaneously to that time period, a pivotal time period in the history of England, as well as the history of the development of the Church of England, and the subsequent effect this had on the foundation of America when the pilgrims arrived there on the Mayflower in 1620.

18th century (c.1760) half calf over marbled paper backed boards. Binding a little rubbed but generally in excellent condition, with the gilt to the spine in compartments between raised bands showing very nicely indeed, the title to the spine reading 'Scots Acts'. Both boards securely attached, joints slightly cracked at the head, but with the binding secure. Bookplate attached to front pastedown of Sir Robert Dalrymple Horn Elphinstone, a senior British Army commander of the 18th century who also became a general in later life. Text block toned throughout with occasional stains, some leaves ragged at edges, a few with minor loss. With the majority of the text without loss of sense throughout. Some loss to the bottom right corner of the title page to the 1621 section as well as the following 5 leaves. Some worming in places throughout, as well as the titles occasionally slightly trimmed away at the head, as typical. The final 4pp are provided in near contemporary manuscript handwriting, perhaps in the hand of Sir Robert Dalrymple Horn Elphinstone (?), and have thus been provided separately in the collation above. A fantastic well provenanced example of an exceedingly rare collection, here all bound together.
