The New British Traveller […]. The Whole Published Under The Immediate Inspection of George Augustus Walpoole. London: Alex Hogg, 1784, folio.
-------------------
A most handsome tall copy in a neatly rebacked contemporary binding, abundantly illustrated with some eighty-five plates, as well as twenty-three maps.
-------------------
Size: 283 x 416 mm (approx.)
Condition:
Contemporary full calf over thicker than usual wooden boards, finely stamped in blind, both boards securely attached with the binding secure, neatly rebacked laying down the original backstrip, rubbed, shelf and edge wear. Externally attractive, shows well on the shelf. Later blanks and pastedowns. Frontispiece laid down but fully extant without loss. Leaves inconsistently cut at edges (as bound), some a little ragged, plausibly uncut. Text mildly toned, some stamps from a school library to blank reverse sides of many of the plates/maps etc throughout and, much less commonly, in the blank marginal space of text leaves. Scattered foxing in places, occasional offsetting to the pages opposing plates, a little joint weakness/creasing in a few foldouts as often, otherwise generally clean throughout. A very good copy, abundantly illustrated.
