A BEAUTIFUL VERY EARLY PUBLISHED SET OF THE WORKS OF JANE AUSTEN, BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED IN COLOUR WITH THE FAMOUS BROCK ILLUSTRATIONS. VERY FINELY BOUND BY RIVIERE.
-------------------
A very famous edition of Jane Austen's works, being the 1907-1909 edition beautifully illustrated in colour by C.E. Brock. These famous illustrations remain intimately associated with Austen's works to this day, and modern illustrated reprints of Austen's works almost always feature these illustrations.
This is a very high quality set which would have been very expensive when originally released, as colour printing of this type in books was expensive at this time. Let alone these stunning Riviere bindings in very fine half red morocco leather which would cost upwards of £2,000 to have bound today. The bindings are also particularly significant as they are quite early with the binder's imprint "Bound by Riviere & Son" and it is our opinion that these bindings are either original or very near to the time of publication which is very rare as most finely bound editions of Jane Austen are in much more modern bindings. Them being older bindings like these really allows the owner and reader to immerse oneself in the history of this beautiful edition of Austen.
These would make a fantastic gift to yourself or someone else with the coming festive season and is one of the nicest sets of Jane Austen's works we have ever encountered.

The collation above is in order as the books are listed at the top of this description. Each volume in the set is collated as complete without any missing leaves, including the original blanks. Half morocco over red cloth boards with gilt flower design in compartments between raised bands. Gilt to spines shows very well indeed on the shelf. Spines uniformly dulled slightly but remain bright and attractive on the shelf. Rubbing to extremities and across joints and lightly so to some spine compartments. All boards are securely attached with hinges fine. Top page edges gilt with fore edges slightly uncut (as published). Some very light foxing to the endpapers of a few, but not all, volumes. Very clean through the text blocks. A little foxing to the versos of colour illustrated plates, most being very clean. Tissue guards for frontispieces toned as typical. Overall a very good and very attractive set of Austen's works.
