Provenance:

Armorial bookplate inscribed "F.C.G. Comte de Cuijpers Seig.r de Rijmenam, d' opstalle, de muijseluijck, de Zutinghen, & a & a" (F.C.G. Count of Cuijpers, Lord of Rijmenam, Opstalle, Muijseluijck, Zutinghen, and so on). The bookplate bears the motto "Hamers Je Soutiendrai Cuypers" (I will support Cuypers), and four smaller armorial crests surrounding the main crest with the inscriptions "Cuypers", "Hamers", "Giells-Hujoel", and "Van Papenbroeck".

Condition: 

[frontis, title, preface, b-b3, pp.1-164, pp.169-408, pp.1-58, advertisement]; [title, preface, pp.1-447, pp.449-464].


Uniformly bound with all tooled labels present. Spines rubbed and dulled. All boards attached with wear to joints and hinges, some of which are starting; front joint and hinge of volume two cracked causing the board to be loosely attached. Boards with very minor rubbing and superficial scratches. Shelf and edge wear. Shelf lean to volume two caused by loose front board. Dulling and toning to page edges. Bookplate attached to front pastedown in both volumes. Pencil inscriptions to the top of the bookplate in volume one with a very small pen inscription to the right of the bookplate. Small bookplate attached to rear pastedown in volume one. Frontispiece present in volume one with small tear to side. Text blocks very clean with light toning and very sporadic very minor foxing. Small number of pages are more toned/foxed than others. Text block cracked between preliminary and title page in volume two. Ink stain to the bottom corner near to gutter in volume two from preliminary to page 1. Plate potentially lacking from volume two between pages 2 and 3, as a torn edge is visible (see photo).
