The Pictorial Edition of the Works of William Shakespeare. Edited by Charles Knight. The Second Edition. London: George Routledge and Sons, 1866.

-------------------

One of the most beautiful editions of the works of Shakespeare to ever be published. Wonderfully illustrated throughout and beautifully finely bound in uniform full calf. The spines are in notably excellent condition, even the harshest grader would consider the set near fine as it appears on the shelf but for most purposes the set shows as in fine condition on the shelf. A truly excellent set.

-------------------

Size: 177 x 247 mm (approx., each)

Condition:

[viii, 456pp]; [viii, 453pp]; [vii, (1), 390pp]; [xcii, 398pp]; [viii, 471pp, i]; [viii, 360pp, 156pp, xvli]; [vii, 495pp]; [(viii), 544pp]

Each volume collates as complete. The order of the collation above is the same as photographed from left to right in the first image. Spines slightly rubbed at extremities and to raised bands with some minor shelf wear at the foot but can generally be considered to be near fine to fine. All tooled morocco labels are present. Very slight rubbing to joints, none being cracked, with all boards securely attached. Boards scuffed with some discolouration and occasional areas of loss to the leather, most boards being very good with a few being good and one fair. The fair board is the front board of the volume titled 'Tragedies II, Poems' which is sunned at the top and scuffed with a bit of loss. The other boards are not sunned. All page edges marbled, top edges uniformly faded as typical else very good. Endpapers foxed else extremely clean throughout thus internally near fine. No attached bookplates or ink writing throughout. The occasional very light pencil mark to endpapers or half titles.

Overall a truly excellent set, externally very good with the spines near fine/fine and internally near fine.
