The Plays of Shakespeare. Printed From the Text of Samuel Johnson, George Steevens, and Isaac Reed. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, 1807, 8vo.
-------------------
An attractive set of Shakespeare's Plays, complete with all twelve volumes, handsomely bound contemporaneously. Scarce in such bright original condition in early bindings.
-------------------
Size: 130 x 206 mm (approx., each)
Condition:
Contemporary full calf, boards lined in double-fillet, spines decorated in gilt. Tooled morocco labels laid down to spines, a few of which are a little chipped, nonetheless show well. Bindings rubbed, some wear to extremities, shelf and edge wear, light bumps to corners, small places of minor discolouration. All boards are attached, some hinges cracked, but secure. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns, 19th century armorial bookplate of Alex Cuningham to front pastedowns. Some scattered generally mild foxing and a few stains, sporadically so, with the illustrations offset to verso blank pages as typical, text mildly toned, but overall a very good set.
