Full brown calf bindings with blind-stamped boards, and gilt titles and decorative gilt in compartments to the spines between raised bands. Very attractive fine bindings. Bindings lightly rubbed and scuffed, more so to the spine of volumes one, and with some occasional small green marks. All boards securely attached with minor wear to joints and hinges, some starting. Shelf and edge wear, with few very small dents. The set stands upright as a set. Marbled page edges somewhat dulled, more so to the tops of the page block. No attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions. Text blocks very clean with light toning and occasional foxing. Pencil inscription in the marginalia on pp.55 in volume one. Please note that the green endpapers are original and are possibly made with an arsenic based pigment.
