A beautiful copy of Horace's poems with a finely engraved frontispiece and a lovely large typeface. A very early English edition of one of the most important ancient poets.

Contemporary full calf, lacks tooled label, rubbed with loss to the leather in compartments of spine. Joints rubbed, front cracked, but with both boards attached. No shelf lean. Top page edge dulled as typical, else edges are very good. Some pencil inscriptions to front pastedown with an ink ownership inscription to verso blank dated June 1907. No attached bookplates. Ink gift inscription to verso of frontispiece dated 1684 ("Thomas Finch 1684. The gift of my Dear Sister Anne Finch"). C6-7 creased and discoloured at fore edges but without loss of sense to text. Mildly toned throughout, but generally very clean, fully legible.
