A beautifully bound early English edition of Plato's Republic, following the first edition into English in 1763. Here in excellent condition in a lovely half morocco binding bound by Hatchards for Sotherans in circa the late 19th century.

Without any notes, underlining, highlighting, etc throughout the text. The text block is very clean, mildly toned as typical. Some loss/dulling to the gilt on the spine with some wear to the foot and very light rubbing to the spine. Rubbing across the joints, but joints uncracked with both boards securely attached. The binding is without shelf lean. Top page edge gilt, dulled with some scratches. Boards near fine. Without any attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions throughout.
