The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in the manner of BARTOLOME ESTEBAN MURILLO (1617-1682), oil on canvas, framed.

-------------------

A beautiful very large scale composition of The Immaculate Conception, finely executed in the 19th century in the manner of Bartolome Esteban Murillo. His many treatments of The Immaculate Conception are best defined by the cherubs surrounding the Virgin which we see in this example. It is not a copy of Murillo's, but recalls his treatment and so remains a unique piece. We also see the Virgin with a serpent beneath her feet, illustrative of the triumph over evil with the entry of Jesus into the world.

A very large composition standing at over a metre high including its beautiful intricately carved complementary giltwood frame.
