A very scarce work on Mary, the mother of Jesus. This edition is beautifully illustrated, particularly the frontis depicting the crucifixion.

Full calf with gilt tooling and gilt tooled label to spine between raised bands, also with gilt tooling. Spine has been rebacked with the new leather a lighter shade, visible at the front joint. Some small loss to the bottom of the tooled label, and to the backstrip extremities. Both boards securely attached with front joint reinforced, front hinge cracked, rubbing along the rear joint, and very minor wear to the rear hinge. Boards rubbed and scuffed with very minor warping. Shelf and edge wear with some loss to corners. Red page edges dulled. Edge toning to endpapers as commensurate with the full calf binding. Ink inscription, and three purple stamps, one very dulled, to ffep. Loss to the outer corners of the ffep. Very minor loss to the top outer corner of the frontispiece. Some ink inscriptions, most crossed/scribbled out, to the title page, not obstructing any text, and seeping through to the reverso. Title page with some light toning and minor foxing. Text block fairly clean with some edge toning and minor foxing. Occasional leaves are more toned/foxed than others. Damp stain to the top of leaves from pp.345 to rear blanks. Pencil inscription to rear pastedown and rear blank.
