This set contains the collected works of Lucian of Samosata in both Greek and Latin. Lucian was known for his satirical and humorous writings, often critiquing various aspects of society and literature of his time.

Provenance:

Gilt crest on front board depicting a lion holding an olive branch wreath. Crest inscribed "Emmanuel" with the motto: AIEN ΑΡΙΣΤΕΥΕΙΝ, translating to "Always Striving for Excellence". The crest belongs to Emmanuel College Cambridge. The College was founded in 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay, Chancellor of the Exchequer to Elizabeth I. 

Alumni include archbishops, Nobel Laureates, comedians, novelists & scientists, amongst so many others; They include Thomas Young (physicist), Karel Reisz (filmmaker), William Sancroft (Archbishop of Canterbury), Sir William Temple (diplomat), Frederick Gowland Hopkins (Nobel Prize winner), Sebastian Faulks (novelist), John Harvard (one of Harvard College's founders), and Sir Fred Hoyle (astronomer).

Condition: 

Spines gunned with minor scuffing and scratches, as well as some volumes having small cracks / tears. Most tooled labels present with two labels lacking, and some other labels lacking small fragments, three of which are lacking most of the label. All boards securely attached with minor wear to joints and hinges; some starting. Boards with marks, discolouration, and scuffing. Shelf and edge wear. Dulling to page edges. Pen ownership inscription on preliminary in all volumes. Text blocks toned with very sporadic very minor foxing. Uncollated but appears complete.
