Condition:

[(3), frontis, engraved t.p., A-E4, (e4), F-Z4, 2A-2Z4, 3A-3Z4, 4A-4F4, 4G2, (2)].

Contemporary Cambridge panelled full calf binding, a little rubbed with some minor edge losses. Finely rebacked circa the early 20th century, with joints and hinges secure, both boards securely attached. The binding is secure and stands without shelf lean, attractive on the shelf. A few ex ownership inscriptions and plates to blanks and pastedowns as described under provenance. Collates as complete including two original blanks at the front and one original blank at the rear, supplemented with two later blanks, later pastedowns, contemporary with the rebacking, circa early 20th century. The text block is generally very clean and bright throughout, a few small areas of damp, not extensive, a few very small worm tracks not affecting text. An effaced contemporary ownership inscription to the general title, illegible. Ownership marks of the New York Seminary to front and rear pastedowns, general title leaf, and the final leaf of text. Light sporadic pencil marginalia. In gatherings 2Y-2Z as printed the text is a little out of order and a contemporary hand, possibly the printer, has written reading instructions at the foot blank marginal space.

Overall, a very nice attractive copy.
