A monumental edition of St Bernard of Clairvaux's Opera, with four volumes here bound into one large folio. A beautifully laid out work with excellent typography and generous margins owing to its scholarly nature, particularly for having been produced at the famous Benedictine Congregation of St Maur.

Contemporary full calf, most of the backstrip now lacking, preserved at the foot such that a new backstrip would be able to match the original style if desired. Front board detached, rear with joints cracked but reasonably securely attached. Attractive bookplate to front pastedown, dated 1915 but in an anachronistic style. Front blank detached but present. Text block mildly toned, but generally in an exceptional state of preservation, free from marginalia. Uncollated but appears to be complete with half title, general title, blanks, and all sectional titles for each of the four 'tomes' all bound into this one volume. A nice copy of what is a rather rare edition.
