A very attractive set of Tacitus' works, a Variorum edition, with the notes of Gronovius. Complete in 2 volumes, here bound into 3, with a particularly excellent engraved title page in volume one. A lovely set.

Collated as complete, including the complete index bound at the rear of the 'second' volume (third in this set). With three title pages throughout as detailed above in the collation.
Near contemporary full calf bindings tooled in gilt with very attractive tooled morocco labels, particularly the volume numbering labels. Bindings rubbed, minor loss at head of backstrip of volume two and the foot of volume one part two. A little rubbing along the joints but with all boards securely attached, bindings secure, and without shelf lean. Top page edges uniformly dulled as typical, else edges remain very good or better. No attached bookplates, no ownership inscriptions located throughout. Text blocks are very clean throughout, the odd small spot of foxing to a few leaves, but with the majority of leaves near fine to fine, without dampstaining, the text being fully legible without loss of sense.
An excellent set.
