The Works of the Bronte Sisters in 6 (of 7) Volumes, With The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell. The Haworth Edition, Published between 1904 and 1905 in London by Smith, Elder, & Co.

A finely bound set of the works of the Bronte sisters. The bindings are unsigned but resemble those by Bumpus, Oxford. They have the gilt arms of Kings College London to each front board and a prize bookplate to each front pastedown from KCL, each being unsigned.

-------------------

This set contains 6 of 7 volumes, lacking the first volume which would contain Jane Eyre, but otherwise contains complete printings of Shirley, Villette, The Professor, Poems, Wuthering Heights, Agnes Grey, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and Gaskell's Life of Charlotte Bronte.

Size: 14 x 20.5 cm (approx., each)

Condition:

Spines uniformly sunned with some scuffs and light peeling of the leather with some loss to The Professor volume. Wear at head and foot of spines occasionally causing some minor discolouration. Joints all fine with all boards securely attached, the bindings secure and without shelf lean. Light shelf & edge wear. Boards are generally very good or better with sporadic small scuffs, though these are all minor. Top page edges gilt, lightly dulled but generally very good, other edges also very good. Some edge toning to endpapers as commensurate with the calf bindings. Bookplate to front pastedown of each volume. Mild toning through the text but generally extremely clean and fully legible. Each volume is collated as complete with the half titles etc and the occasional foldouts, photographic plates, etc.

A very nice set indeed.
