"Moreau's most ambitious project during the 1780's was his series of designs to accompany the great edition of Voltaire which has been undertaken by Beaumarchais. Produced in the printing house built at Kehl especially for this purpose, The Kehl Voltaire is one of the landmarks of printing history." This set is a pirated edition of the renowned Kehl edition which was printed without any of the engravings except for a portrait frontispiece of Voltaire in the first volume.

Lacking volumes: 10, 12, 14, 31, 32, 44, and 46, and all after vol 60 which would include Voltaire's correspondences, else contains 53 volumes total, of 70. Spines with very minor scuffing. Some spines with marks and discolouration. Some spines and tooled labels are different in colour than the others. All tooled labels present. All boards securely attached with wear to joints, and hinges; some joints and hinges starting. Boards with scuffing, rubbing, discolouration, and marks. Shelf and edge wear. Dulling to page edges. Pencil inscription on front pastedown in volume one. Text blocks lightly toned with minor foxing.
