The Works of William Shakespeare 1786 Clarendon Press
The Dramatic Works of Shakespeare, In Six Volumes; With Notes by Joseph Rann. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1786.
-------------------
A beautiful set of Shakespeare's works, and a particularly scarce one. All 18th century or earlier editions of Shakespeare are scarce, but this edition is particularly difficult to come by, especially in such excellent contemporary bindings.
This set includes:
The Tempest, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Measure for Measure, The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing, Love's Labour's Lost, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, As You Like it, The Taming of the Shrew, All's Well That Ends Well, Twelfth Night, The Winter's Tale, Troilus & Cressida, Cymbeline, King John, Richard II, Henry IV Part 1 & 2, Henry V, Henry VI Parts 1, 2, & 3, Richard III, Henry VIII, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra, Timon of Athens, Romeo & Juliet, King Lear, Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello.

Size: 144 x 221 mm (approx., each)
Condition:
Contemporary half calf over marbled paper backed boards, spines tooled in gilt with titles. Spines a little sunned and rubbed but generally in very attractive condition, especially for being contemporary. All boards are securely attached with joints all secure. The bindings are all secure, without shelf lean. Boards lightly scuffed but generally excellent, small amount of paint to rear board of first volume (only). Page edges dulled as typical. Remnants of removed bookplate to front pastedown in each volume, ownership inscription to ffeps. Endpapers foxed with some light sporadic foxing to a few leaves through each volume but generally internally bright and clean. The full text is without loss of sense and entirely legible. A superior example of this very scarce 18th century set of Shakespeare's works, uncollated, but appears to be complete.
