SECOND EDITIONS of Thomas Fuller’s History of the Holy War and The Holy State, here bound together into one volume, preserved in contemporary boards. A bright and fresh copy. The second work includes a notable discussion of ‘The Witch’, how to identify one, and further details about magic and witchcraft - “if they light well, they are inferiour to few men in piety; if ill, superior to all in superstition.”

Contemporary full calf, rebacked with a later backstrip laid down but preserving the plausibly original tooled red morocco title label. Both boards securely attached, binding secure. Bookplate to front pastedown covering an earlier one, shelf reference in ink above. Pencil inscription to upper recto ffep recording the price of acquisition of the previous owner (c.1980s). 

Text block mildly toned, a few marks, otherwise a very fresh copy. With the Nn6 blank present (often wanting). Some dampstaining to Qq4-5, small edge tear to Qq6 not touching the text. 

An excellent copy.
