FIRST EDITION of Through the Looking Glass in a Rivière fine binding. A bright, fresh, and clean copy, very rare with the text block in such excellent condition.

Circa 19th century full calf binding by Rivière, boards double ruled in gilt, repeating gilt motif in compartments to spine, tooled red morocco label extant and laid down. Binding rubbed with some scuffs, shelf wear. Joints and hinges cracked, both boards are attached and the book stands without support on the shelf. 

Collates as complete including the advertisement leaf at the rear. Small hole to L1, no text loss. A few small stains as typical else generally exceptionally bright and clean throughout the text block, a significantly better than typical example.
