FIRST EDITION FIRST IMPRESSION in its original first state binding and first state dust jacket.

With all the bibliographically required first issue points, including the price listed as '15s. net' on the dust jacket instead of the later '16s net', and with the 'Sidney' for 'Sydney' misspelling to the rear flap of the dust jacket. This is also in the first state binding with the title in gilt rather than the later silver lettering.

Collated as complete. Binding slightly cocked but without shelf lean. Some wear to head of spine and rubbing to joints with a small split at the foot of the front joint, with both boards securely attached and the binding secure. Boards with some bumps to the extremities but generally without significant discolouration, wear etc. Gilt to spine without significant loss and shows brightly and well. Ink ownership inscription to front pastedown of P. Farley. Light foxing to endpapers and a small amount at the foot of pp.70-73; 88-92 and a few small spots to other leaves else very clean throughout the text block. Discolouration to page edges.

Dust jacket with wear at joints with some loss, including losses at the majority of extremities. Dust jacket uniformly dulled. Rubbing and loss to the rear panel with the portrait of Fleming. Verso of spine panel a bit more heavily toned but generally the verso of the dust jacket is without significant toning etc.
