-------------------
Titus Livius (Livy) historiarum ab urbe condita (Livy's histories), printed in 1592 at the Aldine Press, following the first Aldine edition of 1555. This being printed in folio format and bound in vellum. A luxurious early edition from the 16th century.
The Aldine Press is one of the most significant publishing houses of all time, perhaps second only to Gutenburg. They invented the italic font and also popularised the octavo sized book, paving the way for the modern paperback. They mainly printed Greek and Latin classics, and we have sold many Aldine editions, including first editions of Statius (1502), Julius Caesar (1513), Cicero (1514), and a significant number of later editions under the Press, several of which are currently available on our eBay page at the time of this being posted.
