Whitby's Commentary on The New Testament 1744
A Paraphrase and Commentary on The New Testament. In Two Volumes. […]. By Daniel Whitby. London: J. Brotherton et al., 1744, folios.
-------------------
A fantastic set of Whitby’s New Testament Commentary in uniform contemporary full calf bindings. A lovely set of folios with a particularly excellent large foldout map, here present and in fine condition where this is often lacking or in poor condition. The text blocks of both volumes are notably very bright and clean throughout. Truly a remarkably well preserved 18th century set.

Size: 245 x 362 mm (approx. each)
Condition:
[(1), frontis, A4, B1, foldout map, B2-7B4, (2)]; [(1), A1-9N5]
Contemporary full calf, spines tooled in gilt in compartments, each retaining their original tooled red morocco labels. Bindings rubbed with the leather dry, with joints cracked but all boards are attached.
Textually collates as complete through both volumes, including the advertisement leaf 7B4 in volume one, though lacks the advertisement in volume two and the final blank. Exceptionally clean throughout both text blocks, a remarkably well preserved copy, final leaf in volume two slightly fragmented and creased.
